Sunnybrook Bank Stabilization

Over the last several years, Western North Carolina has been hammered by repeated “rain bombs” of previously rare intensity. Runoff from these events caused bank erosion throughout Henderson County, but it was especially pronounced downstream of recently developed areas. At Sunnybrook Retirement Community, bank erosion threatened the emergency travel-way and the very building. RDE provided rapid assessment, emergency permitting and design, and construction oversight for this fast-paced bio-technical bank stabilization project. Our unique approach combines rigorous hydraulic engineering analyses, hydrodynamic modeling, and engineering design methods that combine traditional geotechnical engineering methods for toe stabilization with bio-technical methods for bank stabilization.
