Hyatt Park Daylighting & Restoration
Columbia, SC
RDE worked with the City of Columbia and KBS Landscape Architecture and Planning on the daylighting and restoration of a creek originally piped under Hyatt Park. The creek regularly received flows as large as 100 cubic feet per second, and the creek’s watershed is densely developed with approximately 36 percent impervious coverage. Our restoration approach includes careful measurements of existing hydrology, conceptual design of restoration opportunities, active communication with regulators, detailed design for a cost-effective construction approach, collaboration with our talented teammates, and coordination with contractors to ensure the vision for the creek is realized. We are able to apply lessons learned about permitting and construction from our experience with Smith Branch Daylighting and Restoration, a nearby project site.
