Pacolet River Restoration

Mill Spring, NC

From 2015 – 2018, RDE provided rapid geomorphic assessment, stream bank stabilization design, channel training and sediment storage design, and construction inspections for this large river system restoration effort in the foothills of North Carolina.

Following massive bank failure during construction, a multi-year restoration project was on the cusp of becoming an environmental disaster. RDE was asked to re-design the channel restoration features to suit this high volume and sediment laden river. Working with a pre-existing team of contractors and engineers, RDE used rapid modeling and sediment transport analysis to develop a cost-effective, contextually appropriate, and resilient bank stabilization approach.
