Crosstowne Church Flooding Analysis
Charleston, SC
Crosstowne Christian Church flooded three times in five years. Following the second flood in 2017, Crosstowne hired RDE to collect hydrologic data of the Church Creek—the flooding source—and to provide conceptual design solutions for a nature-based approach to integrated flood management. RDE published a comprehensive hydrologic study of the flooding issues, and met with the City of Charleston and other stakeholders to advocate for City Public Works projects or other efforts to resolve the flooding.
RDE recently supported Crosstowne Church in the presentation to the City of Charleston to propose a “floodplain wetland park” on the church campus. City Council approved the proposal, and RDE is working with the church to conceptualize and implement this suburban wetland park.
